Album Review: Whiskey Tango Ghosts by Tanya Donelly

To get inside Donelly's third solo album, you must surrender, slow down and examine every note and syllable. Each of the dozen tracks on Whiskey Tango Ghosts is an elegantly crafted miniature, using a bare minimum of almost entirely acoustic instruments as a framework for Donelly's intimate vocals. You can hear everything - glistening guitars, warm piano, sparingly deployed percussion, distant pedal steel guitar - in almost painful detail, and there's nowhere for the singer to hide.
