Turn off my phone and live alone in everlasting peace Lightning Bug creates quietly confident art that is capable of altering perspectives. A Color of the Sky, the band's first major label release, is a summer soother that absolutely glows. Lightly plucked, echoing acoustic guitars make the entire experience feel like it is meant to be heard while watching a sunrise, in the still of one's backyard.

Lightning Bug have previously wrestled with the fragile alchemy of the artistic process. On their third album, the billowing A Color of the Sky, singer Audrey Kang zeroes in on a fascination with self-discovery through song, contemplating music's ability to illuminate deeper truths in both its author and receiver, and artistic labor's unlikely transfiguration into bliss. Underneath the record's enveloping shoegaze swoon, these quiet musings bring us close enough to feel the vulnerable intimacy of its creation.

True to their name, New York-based rockers/shoegazers Lightning Bug are cozy, friendly, and sit comfortably in the modern indie space. After 2019's October Song, Audrey Kang and company are back for another romp, this time for a more subdued and homey experience that is, in a word, inoffensive. Most of A Color of the Sky is typical indie fare: soothing, breathy arrangements with slightly hazy guitars and enchanting atmosphere.
