Cementing themselves as one of the fastest rising newcomers from Ireland, Elijah Hewson (vocals and guitar), Josh Jenkinson (Guitar), Robert Keating (Bass) and Ryan McMahon (Drums), indeed wear their inspirations on their sleeves like roughly sewn patches upon denim. Across the album's eleven tracks comes a stream of rollicking rock performances and indie anthems, with nods to the likes of The Stone Roses and The Strokes shining through prominently. Offering a nostalgic glimpse at Inhaler 's roots, the titular track is a re-recorded version of a years-old number, "It Won't Always Be Like This" demonstrates the bands evolution and sonic maturity through bold vocals, synth-laden instrumentals and an unstoppable momentum.
Let's get the elephant out of the room first: Inhaler frontman Elijah Hewson is the son of U2's Bono. And though that little tidbit will deter many listeners off the bat, it really shouldn't become a factor in determining whether or not the Dublin foursome are any good. Besides, if you're of a certain age (between the ages of 35 to 44), you'd be surprised to learn how many of your favorite rising artists share a connection with established musicians—both indie or mainstream.
Debut albums are a tricky business. It's arguably the most important project you can face as a musician - get it right, and it'll define you forever. Get it wrong, and… well, it'll define you forever. Causing a ruckus with their punchy live shows and decadent singles INHALER bucked pop trends to push guitar bands back into the mainstream, releasing a series of biting, state-of-the-nation singles.
