Second album from American singer songwriter sees her evolve her dreamy, languid indie-pop Hannah Jadagu’s debut album seemed to come a bit out of nowhere. After her debut EP What Is Going On (entirely recorded on an iPhone using GarageBand) attracted the attention of the legendary Sub Pop label, which led to Aperture, a remarkably assured debut collection. Two years later we have the follow-up, Describe, and it sounds like a natural evolution of Jadagu’s sound, while adding some extra flourishes.
Having released debut LP 'Aperture' in 2023, this second full-length from Hannah Jadagu, 'Describe', stands as a truly triumphant successor. Its opening title track is an entrancing affair akin to being ferried across an ethereal realm, feeling ever lucid in the process, it's a glitch-filled, space-synth odyssey that sets a suitably expansive tone for the rest of the record. Elsewhere, 'Gimme Tee' sees Hannah's space-pop meander towards the mellifluous and melancholy, while 'D.I.A.A.' is an almost shoegazey, reverb-drenched ripper and standout 'My Love' coalesces gloriously between indie pop and '80s goth.
Hannah Jadagu describes herself as a "quality time girlie." On second album 'Describe', the Texas-born singer contends that this quality of time with loved and soon-to-be loved ones is becoming scarce. In 2020, Jadagu uprooted her Southern life and flew West, residing as an NYU student. An EP and album later, Jadagu spent the summer recording in California, departing from the guitar that gave her 2023 debut 'Aperture' its indie rock charm.
