Album Review: Just Like You by Falling in Reverse

Falling in Reverse’s controversial 2013 disc, 'Fashionably Late,' alienated some fans with its electronica and rap influences. But with their new and third album, 'Just Like You,' frontman Ronnie Radke & Co. return to the sound they built their name on, delivering a tour de force effort that is equal parts melody and metallic heaviness. The band shines on cuts like opener “Chemical Prisoner,” a catchy rocker with soaring vocals, and “Guillotine IV,” a breakdown-laden pummeler.

Review Summary: Now all the critics wanna hit it + shit-can how we did it...The Drug in Me Is You, Falling in Reverse's debut, is only three and a half years old. In the short time since that album came out, I have come upon many, many reasons people seem to have for hating frontman Ronnie Radke and the music he puts out (since, in essence, Falling in Reverse is less of a band than it is a carefully crafted vehicle for keeping Radke's brand alive in rock music). To put this another way, despite the (extremely rare) flashes of genuine, innovative musicianship that flare up across Falling in Reverse's three album discography, this is simply not one of those bands that could continue with another lead vocalist.

First off, this isn't a slam review. I give everything a fair chance (Patrick Stump, now and forever).But honestly, please tell me how a label like Epitaph associates itself with a band like Falling In Reverse? You've got spunky pop-punk in Joyce Manor, you've got emotionally resonating poetry in Pianos Become The Teeth and you've got close-to-pure contemporary rock in The Menzingers. But then this? Seems like a deliberate maintenance to cash in on the Warped Tour crowd because there's no substance, nor any style, to this record, as has been the case for FIR for years now."Chemical Prisoner" opens and it ain't bad.
