The musical chemistry between the icon and the country star is obvious from the start of this collaboration, with songs that range from celebration to wistful contemplation He may have (eventually) retired from touring and is now sadly suffering from a degenerative eye condition, but at the age of 78, Elton John is, indeed, still standing. Following on from his collaborative record The Lockdown Sessions back in 2021, we now have another collaboration, this time with his long-term friend, country music star Brandi Carlile. Who Believes In Angels? is very much a collaboration, too.
While Elton John may have retired from touring in 2023, bowing out in style with his Glastonbury headline set, the UK icon remains very much active as a recording artist. His first album since 2021's patchwork 'Lockdown Sessions' is a surprise collaboration with Brandi Carlile, a larger tapestry following the duo's single, 'Never Too Late' , from the recent documentary of the same name. Indeed, Elton John is no stranger to collaboration albums; 2010's 'The Union' with Leon Russell proved to be a highlight in his more recent canon.
