A letter to Moby
by: Tim Wardyn
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope it finds you well, because after you read it, you probably won’t be. I just listened to an album that kicks the stuffing out of anything that you’ve done. The artist is Momo and the album is called "Unharmed." This album is like a combination of your best work and the vocalist from the movie The Fifth Element and made it twice as impressive.
Now don’t get me wrong, you’ve done some great stuff. "Play" and "18" were fantastic, the difference is that Momo has five unbelievably phenomenal female singers to sing for him. Take the first track "Diamonds" for instance. It sounds a lot like "Porcelain" from "Play," but it features jazz singer Gracie Patton and the operatic Amelia Whiteman who sounds eerily similar to the opera lady from the previously mentioned movie. Or how about the following track, "Atomic?" It (along with four other tracks) features the beautifully fragile voice of a lady only known as Beth. Beth sounds like Sia Furler who does a lot of stuff with the duo Zero 7 and sounds a boatload better than any vocalist that you’ve had on any of your albums.
So here’s what I’m saying Moby. Momo (a.k.a. Toni Castells) has taken electronic music and done more than just put it on the map as more than clubthumping. He has shown that if you get the right vocalists, you can make something that not just great, but magical. I hope that this does not put a damper on your day, but helps you to become a better music maker. Thank you for reading this.
Sincerely,
Tim Wardyn
PS- Please use some decent guest singers on your next album. It would really help. Thank you kindly.
