The veteran U. K. guitar hero Chris Spedding has worked with practically everyone, from Brian Eno and John Cale to Cleo Laine and the Wombles, and at the age of 70 he's still picking up a storm and full of rock & roll attitude, as demonstrated on his 2015 solo effort Joyland, his first album under his own name in six years.

Since appearing on Jack Bruce solo albums in the early 70s, playing with John Cale and forming the underrated Sharks, Chris Spedding’s career has taken him everywhere from the charts (with 1975 macho novelty Motorbikin’) to a Womble suit, with countless sessions – including several landmarks – along the way. Going on the hilariously over-the-top sleevenotes to his 13th studio album, Spedding is determined to make a serious mark under his own name in his 70th year. Here he follows the time-honoured tradition of calling in heavy friends to collaborate on his stylised rock recreations (all original compositions with current collaborator Steve Parsons, apart from a rollicking version of Crispian St Peters’ The Pied Piper, with Roxy saxophonist Andy McKay).
